Gregoria Loses, Women’s Singles End

Odense

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung is not a match for the second seed, Akane Yamaguchi. Gregoria’s defeat ensured that the Indonesian women’s singles ended at the 2021 Denmark Open.

In the round of 16 match at Odense Sports Park, Thursday (21/10/2021), Gregoria gave up two straight games to Yamaguchi 13-21, 15-21. Gregoria struggled to keep up with the opponent’s game from the first game before losing in a 29-minute duel.

Thus, there will be no more Indonesian women’s singles in the rest of the tournament. The only other representative, Ruselli Hartawan, was immediately eliminated in the first round.

In addition, this defeat continues to extend Gregoria’s bad record against Akane Yamaguchi. This is the eighth successive loss suffered by Gregoria in nine badminton second meetings.

A number of representatives in the doubles also fell. The pair Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Rambitan were defeated by eighth seed Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 15-21, 18-21.

In the mixed doubles, Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari failed to catch up with their seniors, Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva, after being smothered by second seeds Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino 13-21, 20-22.

It’s the same in women’s doubles. The pair Nita Violina Marwah/Putri Syaikah made the second seed Lee Sohee/Shing Seungchan work hard even though they lost three games 21-15, 18-21, 15-21.
