French team: “I make sporting choices”, replies Deschamps to Giroud’s non-summons

DIDIER DESCHAMPS. I make sporting choices. Group life is one thing. He is a regular at the France team but I made this decision.

How do you explain the new non-selection of Olivier Giroud?

I don’t have to explain any more. I make sporting choices. At the last gathering, the conscripts gave satisfaction. I stay on it.

Why did you classify Théo Hernandez in midfield?

He’s pretty offensive but he’s neither a forward nor a defender so I put him in the middle.

Lucas Hernandez, his brother, is he a central defender or a side in your eyes?

He is able to play in both positions. He is trained as a central defender. It is versatile. This allows you to have several options. He now plays more as a central defender at Bayern.

Two brothers in a selection is quite rare. Is this a particular situation in management?

I do not know. I did not experience it as a coach. The last time, I was little and I don’t necessarily have memories of it, it was with the Revelli brothers in the years 1973. Why was Eduardo Camavinga not called?
