Conference League: LASK awards victory against Tel Aviv

Sascha Horvath had put the hosts in the lead (11th), shortly before the end Maccabi used one of his few chances to equalize by Eden Schamir (88th). Both teams now hold on to four points.

Tel Aviv is the first in Group A to have a better goal difference than Linz. The parallel game between Alashkert and HJK Helsinki ended with a 4-2 win for the Finns. The next opponent of LASK in three weeks away is the Armenian team from Alashkert.

LASK awards win against Tel Aviv

LASK awarded a victory on Thursday evening in the second round of the UEFA Conference League in Klagenfurt. In the end, it was 1-1 against Israeli runner-up Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Cautious start in front of a sparse backdrop

Against the Israelis, Wieland made two changes in the starting line-up compared to the 3-1 win against Admira. The French Yannis Letard moved into the defense instead of Felix Luckeneder, while Alexander Schmidt replaced the injured Mamoudou Karamoko in the storm. As expected, Maccabi organized itself in a 4-3-3 system. In front of the sparse backdrop of around 1,000 spectators in the Wörthersee Stadium, both teams felt each other for ten minutes without any major highlights.

But then things happened in quick succession. Thomas Goiginger put Rene Renner in the limelight on the left wing, who served Schmidt with a sharp Stanglpass, who in distress put the ball on the right inside pole. Sascha Horvath dusted the rebound dry to make it 1-0 (11th). Only a minute later it could have been 2-0: After a fine one-two with Goiginger, Schmidt failed at the brilliantly reacting goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, the 21-year-old goalkeeper defused with a reflex Schmidt’s Schupfer (12th).

Opportunities for the LASK

Then Maccabi intensified his offensive efforts and also found the first opportunities. First, Dan Glazer missed with a head free after a corner kick (15th), shortly afterwards Stipe Perica refueled in the penalty area against Letard. But the Croatian striker had not adjusted his sights well either, his shot went well over the gate from a promising position (17th). Then LASK got the game back under control, Petar Filipovic headed to Peretz after a Michorl corner (28th).

Shortly afterwards it was over for Letard, the central defender had to go out with a thigh injury and was replaced by Jan Boller (30th). The 21-year-old German gave his rendezvous with a yellow card after fouling Gavriel Kanichowsky.

Well-deserved break leadership

Before that, Goiginger found his champion with a great long-range shot in Peretz (31st), Maresic missed the goal a little later after a throw-in from Holland with an overhead kick (34th). The Israelis showed little offensively in this phase despite more possession, Maccabi shots on goal were in short supply. The Linz leadership at the break was deserved.

Thomas Goiginger was one of the assets at LASK

In a second half with few climaxes, the athletes tried to control the ball, game and opponents, but were vulnerable to Maccabi switching actions. Perica missed the ball just a touch in front of goalie Alexander Schlager (56th), two minutes later Kanichowsky shot the ball into the Klagenfurt evening sky after a counterattack.

LASK cannot add more

On the other hand, the Upper Austrians failed to expand their lead with a double chance. Substitute Marko Raguz headed on goal after a Horvath cross from the right, but here too Peretz was on the post with a spectacular save. Goiginger couldn’t use the ricochet from a very short distance, as Andre Geraldes still brought his leg between the ball and the goal.

As a result, Tel Aviv had more of the game, but the Wieland squad did not allow any real chances for the time being. Maccabi did not play his attacks to the end, the game forward was too imprecise, the Linz defense was mostly very good. At the front, however, the LASK failed to refill.

Inattention is punished

Husein Balic, who replaced the goalscorer Horvath, ran away from the Maccabi defense, but his pass in the penalty area to Christoph Monschein, who came into play for Goiginger, failed (74th). Ten minutes later, Balic just missed a Monschein cross. Tel Aviv managed to equalize almost out of nowhere.

Cheers from the Tel Aviv players

Once Tel Aviv played an attack consistently and thus scored the equalizer

Once the hosts were inattentive at the back and had to pay for it: Via Ofir Davidsada, the ball got to substitute Eduardo Guerrero, who had too much space and found “Joker” Eden Schamir in the penalty area, who equalized. The game was over. The Linzers don’t have much time to catch their breath, on Sunday the Schlager is waiting in the tenth round of the Admiral Bundesliga at Meister Red Bull Salzburg (5:00 p.m.).

Voices for the game:

Andreas Wieland (LASK trainer): “We saw a nice performance against a very, very good opponent. Unfortunately, we failed to close the bag early and score the second goal. We gave Maccabi the opportunity to come back one more time. This led to the draw, with which we are of course not completely satisfied. “

Sascha Horvath (LASK goal scorer): “We started very well today, we were extremely aggressive and rewarded each other straight away. Then we still had a few chances in the second half. The equalizer in the 88th minute is of course extremely bitter, but we can still be satisfied with the performance. “
