FESTIVAL OF THRUSH, PRESENTED THE WORK MADE BY THE ARTIST LUCA POLLAI

“Making this work was an honor for me. I reinterpreted the work of Master of Panzano painting with acrylic colors on a leather shield made by a Florentine craftsman “. So the artist Luca Pollai, chosen by the municipal administration to carry out the work that will go to the district that will win the 63rd edition of the Thrush Festival, scheduled in Montalcino (Siena), Sunday 31 October with the districts of Borghetto, Pianello, Ruga and Travaglio who will compete, as usual, in the archery tournament. “More than anything else I approached the idea of ​​realization thinking about Montalcino, the medieval and local festivals and the idea of ​​painting on a volume like the one represented by the shield that gave me the opportunity to better express what I felt” he added Pollai during the presentation ceremony in the Cloister of the Museum.

“We are located in a really important place in the heart of our city – said the mayor Silvio Franceschelli -. Neighborhoods play an essential role in maintaining the sociability of our community. Our neighborhoods must remain a strong defense of our identity and our identity festivals ”.

The work was presented by Maddalena Sanfilippo “The work created for the 2021 edition of the Festival stands out for the originality of the support; it is in fact a leather-covered wooden shield with a leather handle on the back; the image of the shield that protects the city of Montalcino it refers to the open mantle of the Virgin as it was depicted in the work of the 2010 Festival by Silvia Ranchicchio, also author of the large round metal shield in metal that sways in the wind in the meadow next to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso. The choice of the leather-covered wooden support evokes painted sculpture in Pollai, a distinctive feature of the Montalcino Museum that the artist defines as ‘marvelously expressive’; the features of the Virgin and Child are freely drawn from the prototype of the master of Panzano with an idealizing will of medieval forms that makes the faces more serene and radiant than those of the model, with the precise will of the artist to simply communicate joy; on the gold background the blue drapery of the Virgin stands out, a transparent blue called phthalo which gives a brilliant intensity to a blue with different chiaroscuro passages. His respectful approach, on tiptoe, humble and polite as a serious and multifaceted artist pays homage to Montalcino and the tradition of our party with a valuable, luminous work, with effective symbolism and an appropriate expressive form “.
