Colombia and the players called up for the Davis Cup – Tennis – Sports

Alexander Falla, captain of Colombia, announced the names of four of the five players who will play the Davis Cup Finals next November.

Daniel Galán, 106 in the ATP singles ranking, Nicolás Mejía, 274 in the ATP singles ranking, Robert Farah, 11 in the ATP doubles ranking and Juan Sebastián Cabal, 14 in the ATP doubles ranking are, to date, the players called up.

The players, one by one

For Daniel Galán (Colsanitas Team) it is his seventh call to Davis Cup, an event where he has a balance of 6 wins and 3 falls. Since his debut in 2018, the Santander has been in each of the series that our country has played in this tournament.

Meanwhile, for Nicolás Mejía (Colsanitas Team) it is his second appearance in Davis, a competition in which he made his debut in 2018 in the away series against Argentina. The country’s current second racket will be in the Finals looking for its first overall victory in the tournament.

On the other hand, Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah (Colsanitas Team) will once again join forces to be the doubles pair. Since they first played together in 2011 in the Davis Cup, they have given the country a total of 12 points.

Captain’s words

It is worth mentioning that the team will have a fifth player, however, this will be nominated in the coming weeks.

“As of today I have called up four players, and the fifth place I will be announcing in the next two or three weeks, there are still some tournaments prior to the Davis Cup and I want to be sure to bring the member who has the best results and who can contribute a lot to the team ”, commented Alejandro Falla, captain of the Colombia Colsanitas Team.

“We have a great team, a great illusion, so we hope that they will join us in the Finals in the city of Turin”, was the slogan of the president of the FCT, David Samudio Gómez.

Team Colombia Colsanitas will be part of Group E of the Davis Cup Finals where they will face Italy on Saturday, November 27, and then the United States on Sunday, November 28. These confrontations will take place at the Pala Alpitour in the city of Turin, in Italy.

The Davis Cup Finals will be played, in the first instance, with a round robin phase with six groups of three countries, where the first of each zone plus the two best seconds will qualify for the quarterfinals (from November 29 to December 2) . Then the semifinals (December 3-4) and the final (December 5) will be played.
