BBL: FC Bayern Basketball – the “wannabe underdog”

One feeling dominates Bayern: curiosity. The people of Munich are looking forward to their new season and their new players. It’s just stupid that many players are currently unavailable due to injuries or corona quarantine: “Up until now we didn’t even have the entire team together for five minutes,” complains head coach Andrea Trinchieri. Nine out of 17 players were temporarily absent. Everything is very difficult, the Italian thinks.

Trinchieri: “I don’t know what to expect”

Now he hopes everyone will soon recover to find out what he needs to work on. “I don’t even know what to expect,” says the 53-year-old.

Last season’s final bankruptcy against ALBA Berlin is still having an impact. You had a good season, yes. But the others cheered.

In addition to the championship, the Euroleague remains the main goal

What they have to do: Develop the same attitude as last season: Bayern were a team that hated defeat and made it into the play-offs of the highest European competition, the Euroleague, for the first time. Of course, the Munich team want to repeat that – at that time the quarter-finals were over. The coach finds it very arrogant to say that you want to go further: “It would be arrogant to say that.”

Club President Herbert Hainer obviously has a different opinion: For him it is “very clear” the goal to “take the next step”. The whole club lived the spirit of optimism and the motivation to achieve something similar in basketball as in football, he added. In the long run, he wants to make it to the top of Europe in this sport too
