[Bilbao 2nd Reuters]–Wheelchair basketball, captain of the women’s Afghanistan national team, Nirofar Bayat (28), made his debut with the team in New World Spain on the 2nd.
Following the reinstatement of the Islamist organization Taliban in Afghanistan, Bayat escaped Kabul with her husband Ramesh. He flew with 100 refugees in collaboration with the Government of Spain and the Spanish Basketball Federation and arrived in Madrid on August 20th.
After that, Mr. and Mrs. Bayat decided to play for the wheelchair basketball team, Bidaidek Bilbao. Bayat participated in a friendly match of a mixed gender team on the 2nd. Mr. Bayat was greeted with her husband in a standing ovation and presented with a bouquet.
After the match, Bayat told Reuters, “I’ve never felt so kind and respectful. With a great welcome, I felt that this place was my second home and I could live very happy here.” Stated.
