After the riot in recent years: Berlin police want to increase their presence on Halloween evening – Berlin

After rioting and assaults in the past, the Berlin police want to increase their presence on Halloween night (October 31). Based on experience from previous years, this is planned in Schöneberg in the Potsdamer- / Pallas- and Goebenstrasse area and in the Gesundbrunnen area, as police spokesman Thilo Cablitz announced on request. There had been a riot there before the corona pandemic.

The authority did not have any specific information about activities on Halloween night, the spokesman said. Experience has shown, however, that the police are increasingly called in in connection with Halloween celebrations. “Damage to property, bodily harm and disturbances of the peace at parties are often in the foreground,” said the spokesman. The police want to be on the road with many patrols all over the city.

In 2019 young people rioted in Berlin on Halloween evening and attacked police officers. On Potsdamer Strasse, for example, the police seized three prepared incendiary devices in a hallway. Up to 150 young people gathered in Brunnenstrasse in the Gesundbrunnen district and pelted Deutsche Bahn security guards with eggs.

In the previous year, from several small groups in Pallasstrasse / Potsdamer Strasse, a bus and cars were pelted with eggs and firecrackers. A cyclist was also the target of a firecracker. In 2017 there were similar incidents on the two days. (dpa)
