Good news for Liverpool and a number of English clubs, FIFA finally gave the green light for them to field Brazilian players. Top!
As previously reported, Liverpool, along with Chelsea, Leeds United, Manchester United and Manchester City, were punished by FIFA not to use their Brazilian players for 5 days from 10-14 September, in all competitions.
This decision was taken after they refused to release them to defend the national team in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers. Because Brazil and its Latin American countries were included in their list of the British government due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a result, the players have to be quarantined for 14 days upon their return to the country. The club certainly does not want to be disadvantaged if they have to see their players lose training time and play for that long.
In addition to the eight Brazilian players, there were also several players who had been banned from playing such as Raul Jimenez (Wolverhampton), Miguel Almiron (Newcastle United), as well as Francisco Sierralta and Ben Brereton (Chile).
This then became a polemic among the managers of these clubs because they felt they were being treated unfairly. They did this because it was against the rules of the British government.
However, good news has finally emerged for these English clubs. Quoted The Athletic, on Friday (10/9/2021) evening local time, FIFA, FA and Premier League reached an agreement with the football federations of Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Paraguay.
All players were allowed to appear this weekend after agreeing to ignore the five-day suspension rule. That means, Liverpool can play again Alisson and Fabinho against Leeds United reinforced by Raphinha.
Then, Manchester City duo Ederson and Gabriel Jesus could play against Leicester City, Fred could be fielded by Manchester United, and Thiago Silva could be included in Chelsea’s line-up against Aston Villa.
