The Sports Council agrees to pay bonuses to athletes for each high-quality Paralympic achievement

Today, the Latvian National Sports Council decided to urge the government to amend the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers on the procedure for awarding cash prizes for achievements in the Paralympic Games, so that athletes can receive prizes for each high-quality Paralympic achievement.

At present, the rules stipulate that medals won in individual sports at the Olympic Games may only be awarded the highest prize per calendar year to an athlete, his coaches, sports staff, including sports doctors, service staff and the relevant sports federation, with the sole exception of the achievements of athletes at the Olympic Games, for which a cash prize may be awarded for each of the achievements.

Amendments to the rules would stipulate that, for achievements in the Paralympic Games, as in the case of achievements in the Olympic Games, a cash prize for outstanding achievements in sport could be awarded for each of the achievements.

If the government accepts the amendments, the Latvian Paralympians will be able to receive prizes for all the outstanding results at the Tokyo Paralympic Games – not just one highest.

The mentioned regulation would directly apply to the Latvian Paralympians Diāna Dadzīte and Rihards Sniks, who won two silver awards in Tokyo.
