The president of the Judo club paucourtois is a passionate and tireless volunteer

If he was not born in judo, Charles Talens plunged there for a very long time, when his children started, thirty years ago, at J3 Amilly. So he got involved in the discipline, before taking the presidency of the Judo club Paucourtois, in the town where he resides. His son Yoann is also the salaried teacher.

Classes resume
September 7

Charles joined the club’s office and after two years he took over as president. Surrounded by his team (Amélie Charlanes, treasurer, and Nadine Brémont, secretary), he constantly made progress, until reaching 73 licensees today.

The Covid has of course been there, but it has not stopped this momentum. “Children, teens, adults, everyone plays the game. There are no particular difficulties”, he confides. Before the end of last season, outdoor activities had resumed. With Yoann, they worked to ensure the most dynamic recovery possible, especially with young people: “We went to pick up the Paucourtois children when they left school at 4.30 pm Then we kept them until 5 pm 15. It is a service provided to parents free of charge. It allowed us to recover 6-7 licensees for this next season, ”he explains. It allows them to resume on September 7, with lessons on Tuesday and Thursday and an additional taiso session on Saturday.

The changed tatami mats

Volunteering is precisely what is at stake for the leaders of this club as for many others, and on this point, Charles Talens looks lucidly: “It’s pure volunteering, but the parents do they imagine? When I arrived, the members of the office were not paying. I did not find that legitimate, because there were only about twenty licensees. I had always paid for my license, my courses, so I said when I got here “I pay”, and the others followed. I pay just like any licensee of my club, ”he explains.

Everyone’s efforts and good management like a small family business have made it possible to grow the Judo club Paucourtois: all the tatami mats have been changed and their number increased, like the teaching area, thanks to two-thirds funding from the club, and the town hall (one third).

“We bought equipment for around € 2,000: mannequins, medicine ball (heavy balls for exercises), fitness trail, a large fall mat. Little by little, the equipment was renewed from A to Z and a storage room was made available by the town hall, in the Clairière room. ”
