September has arrived, the Regular Season is nearing its end and with it Mexican players will be closing their 2021 campaign activity, presenting a balance of good results both at bat and from the center of the diamond.

MLB: The 12 Mexicans who start the 2021 Season

Until now 18 tricolor players have seen action, 11 of them pitchers and seven outfield players, one of them is a catcher, four are infielders and two are outfielders.

2021 has delivered positive results so far, from the performance that Julio Urías is presenting, MLB leader with 15 victories, to having seen the debut of three Mexicans, Manuel Rodríguez (Cubs), Miguel Aguilar (D-Backs) and Alejo López (Reds). In addition, the presence of outfield players has increased, three of them already starting and one more (Alejandro Kirk) earning more playing time.

Here we present the list and main statistics of Mexican players that have seen action in 2021:

PITCHERS MEXICANOS

Julio Urías (Dodgers)

  • Make: 15-3
  • Effectiveness: 3.17
  • He is the leader of the Major Leagues with his 15 victories, being the best arm of the team. So far it adds 150 entries of labor.

Luis Cessa (Reds)

  • Brand: 1-1
  • Effectiveness: 2.19
  • He was traded from the Yankees to the Reds, fulfilling a reliever role. With Cincinnati he adds 12.1 innings of labor.

Joakim Soria (Blue Jays)

  • Brand: 1-4
  • Effectiveness: 3.97
  • He was traded from Arizona to Toronto and just came back from the disabled list. So far he has 34 innings of work and six saves in the season.

Sergio Romo (Athletics)

  • Brand: 1-0
  • Effectiveness: 3.12
  • He came to the Athletics this year and has already accumulated 52 jobs, adding a save. He has 53 strikeouts.

Giovanny Gallegos (Cardinals)

  • Make: 5-5
  • Effectiveness: 2.97
  • He has appeared in 59 games, in which he has thrown 66.2 innings. In total he has 75 strikeouts.

Jose Urquidy (Astros)

  • Make: 6-3
  • Effectiveness: 3.38
  • He was on the disabled list and will pitch again this Friday, September 3. He has 14 starts, in which he has thrown 77.1 innings.

Victor Gonzalez (Dodgers)

  • Make: 3-1
  • Effectiveness: 3.57
  • He’s been injured and has appeared in 44 games, with 35.2 innings pitched.

Manuel Rodriguez (Cubs)

  • Make: 3-2
  • Effectiveness: 2.45
  • He debuted on July 30 and has 15 appearances, in which he has 14.2 innings of work.

Miguel Aguilar (D-Backs)*

  • Brand: 1-1
  • Effectiveness: 9.00
  • He made his debut July 30 with the D-Backs and has pitched in six games, adding five innings of work.

Humberto Castellanos (D-Backs)*

  • Brand: 1-1
  • Effectiveness: 2.14
  • He has nine appearances, two of which are starts, accumulating 21 innings of activity.

Oliver Pérez (Indians)**

  • Brand: 0-1
  • Effectiveness: 0.00
  • He started the season with the Indians but after five games he was cut by Cleveland. He is currently playing in the Mexican League.

Alex Verdugo (Red Sox)

  • He is having his best season in MLB, adding 122 games, with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs.

Alejandro Kirk (Blue Jays)

  • The catcher has appeared in 41 games, hitting 29 hits, with four home runs and 16 RBIs.

Luis Urías (Brewers)

  • Batting PCT: .244
  • He has established himself with the Brewers by accumulating 123 games, in which he has 98 hits, with 18 home runs and 59 RBIs.

Ramón Urías (Orioles)

  • Batting PCT: .272
  • The infielder has earned playing time and has already played 73 games, in which he has 62 hits, seven home runs and 36 RBIs.

Alejo López (Reds) *

  • Batting PCT: .273
  • The infielder made his debut on June 28 and participated in 13 games, in which he added 22 at-bats, in which he hit six hits.

Isaac Paredes (Tigers)*

  • Batting PCT: .256
  • The infielder was called up from the Minor Leagues and played on June 8. He has 14 games, adding 47 plate appearances. He hasn’t played in MLB since July 19.

Luis González (San Francisco) ***

  • Hitting PCT: .250
  • The outfielder was called up to the White Sox first team and returned to play in MLB on April 29. His last game was on June 27. On August 9 he was released and the Giants took him. He had 11 plate appearances but is on the disabled list.
