The Day – Every Day Better

WASHINGTON.- During the first month and a half of the 2021 season, Lewin Díaz and Jesús Sánchez mistreated the rival pitching with Triple-A Jacksonville. As the year goes by, the Dominican duo is trying to continue that in the Major Leagues.

After Sanchez put together a three-game home run in a row over the weekend, Diaz had his first multi-homer game Tuesday in Miami’s 8-2 loss to the Nationals at Nationals Park.

When Miami refused to trade Venezuelan veteran Jesús Aguilar on the trade deadline, that prevented Diaz from having a longer internship with the big team. But with Aguilar out due to an inflammation in his left knee, the Dominican has taken over the position full time. The Marlins want to take a good look at their prospect, who ranks third-best on their farms.

“My confidence is growing,” said Díaz. “I feel super good and comfortable. I’m playing more and I feel calmer – playing every day has helped me ”.

Although Diaz is in his fifth stint with the Marlins this year, two of them lasted just one day. He started his first 11 games of the year with Aguilar on the active roster and struck out six times in 17 times at bat.

There has been considerable improvement in that aspect now, with six strikeouts in 25 times at bat during this span.

“It’s very important to have that in my plan, lower my number of strikeouts and put the ball in play,” Diaz mentioned. “Looking for better shifts, swinging better pitches. That will improve the quality of my shifts. “

Diaz made his debut in the majors on August 15, 2020, but saw little action. He started 11 times in 2020, hitting .154 / .195 / .205 41 times at bat.
