Scored Quat-trick in Champions League Debut, Haller Samai Van Basten

Sebastien Haller scored four goals as Ajax Amsterdam bulldozed Sporting CP 5-1. Those goals saw Haller equal Marco van Basten.

Ajax travel to Sporting CP headquarters in Jose Alvalade in the first matchday of Group C Champions League, Thursday (16/9/2021) early morning WIB. This match became Haller’s first Champions League debut.

The 27-year-old striker immediately scored four goals. According to Opta Haller’s records, he became the second player to score four goals on his Champions League debut after Marco van Baset did it in an AC Milan shirt in the match against Gothenburg in 1992.

Haller joined Ajax in January 2021 from West Ham United. He comes after Ajax were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League last season.

Haller’s performance was very good while defending Ajax. The player who was born in France, but defended the Ivory Coast national team, scored 13 goals from 23 matches last season. This season he is also still shining by packing eight goals from six matches in all competitions.

Another Ajax goal was contributed by Stven Berghuis. Sporting CP scored the only goal through Paulinho.

Ajax temporarily sit top of the table with three points, ahead on goal difference from Borussia Dortmund who beat Besiktas 2-1. Sporting CP is clear with this crushing defeat occupying the bottom of the standings.

Jack Grealish also debuted in the Champions League. He appeared sip when Manchester City crushed RB Leipzig 6-3 in the first matchday of Group A with one goal and one assist.

Grealish’s record equals Wayne Rooney. The retired England international packed it up against Fenerbahce in September 2004.
