With a program that includes a wide range of sports disciplines, trainings and talks on training and health, authorities from the five universities gathered in Temuco UniverCiudad, the Municipality of Temuco and Corparaucanía launched this Tuesday, August 31, the 2021 version of their Sports Games , which will be held mostly in virtual mode.
In this way, the pro-university city alliance continues the objective of prioritizing sport as a strategic area of development in higher education and the city, work that began in 2011 and which, even in a pandemic, has benefited university students de La Frontera, Católica de Temuco, Autónoma de Chile, Mayor and Santo Tomás.
In their speeches during the launch online broadcast, the authorities present highlighted sports practice as essential in life. “Sport helps us understand each other, look at each other, dialogue and work as a team, be in solidarity (…), the values it delivers are fundamental to create more democratic and just societies,” said the administrator of the Municipality of Temuco, José Montalva, representing Mayor Roberto Neira.
In turn, the rector of the Universidad Santo Tomás, Rosemarie Junge, emphasized the spirit of unity that is expected to be strengthened among the students of higher education in Temuco, through this championship and the different actions of the city alliance: ” Sport is a healthy way of competing and getting to know each other, but mainly of interacting between the different houses of study ”, he emphasized.
SPORTS IN PANDEMIC
Although the decrease in the numbers of coronavirus contagion has allowed face-to-face activities to be gradually resumed in Temuco, the 2021 Sports Games consider virtual planning, with the possibility of specifying some individual disciplines in person according to the evolution of the pandemic.
Thus, the program includes a virtual university run, massive fitness, yoga classes, hiit, gap, entertaining dance, chess, and virtual challenges for sports disciplines: volleyball, beach volleyball, hockey, handball, table tennis, tennis, badminton , soccer, basketball, 3 × 3 basketball, and soccer tennis, in which prizes and training kits will be raffled off. In the training area, there will be trainings to certify sports specialties, including: hockey judge, hockey control table, beach volleyball judge, and talks on training and health with prominent references.
“We have two generations of students who have missed the traditional sports activity and we hope to enchant with this initiative, the message is also for them,” said the head of the Temuco UniverCiudad Sports Coordinators Board, Adrián Castillo.
It should be noted that the championship is organized with the participation of the Municipal Sports Corporation, given the role of strategic partner of the municipality in the Temuco UniverCiudad alliance, and especially in the sports field.
