Saint-Etienne-de-Tulmont. Archery: President Cuquel says no to the control of the health pass

The general assembly of Stéphanois Archers was held in the presence of a few members, many having given their power. The municipality was represented by Lætitia Peyrières, deputy mayor, in charge of community life. After his word of welcome, President Régis Cuquel gave a brief activity report for the past year. Due to Covid-19, archers were only able to practice their sport for three weeks in September, one in October and one in December. In 2021, activity resumed for two weeks in June, then the gymnasium was converted into a polling station. Finally, the same gymnasium was used by the recreation center during the summer. With this complicated year, the club’s membership has grown from an average of 35 to 14 adults and 2 young people. The opening to the attention of people with disabilities could not materialize due to the health crisis. Under these conditions, and to retain its members, the board of directors voted on an exceptional measure on June 9: offer a credit of € 30 corresponding to the portion of the membership fee due to the club or the extension of the validity of the equipment rental card for the coming season.

Jean-Pierre Lara, treasurer, thanked the municipality for having maintained the annual subsidy of 350 €, then he presented the balanced financial report.

The president addressed the key issue of shooting outside which could find a solution with the provision of land by the municipality.

Finally, Régis Cuquel informed the assembly of his decision to refuse to control the health passes of members of the association, parents of young archers and any visitor to the shooting range. He explains his decision: “For twelve years, I have been defending values of openness to all. I do not want to be led to reject someone because they do not have a health pass, that would be discriminatory. Other than that. On the other hand, I’m not a cop or a doctor. As a result, I won’t be opening the doors to the gym, unless the regulations change quickly. ” The board will have to meet to find a solution.
