The mayor of Ronda, Maripaz Fernández, accompanied by the Sports delegate, Carlos Mirasol, welcomed the representatives of the Spanish Badminton Federation and the Ronda Badminton Club to the City Hall for the presentation of the fifth round of the Circuit National Senior Badminton to be held at the El Fuerte sports facilities on September 11 and 12, a sporting event in which the participation of about 130 players from all over the country is expected and which is scored for the Spanish Championship.
The Sports delegate thanked the Spanish Badminton Federation for choosing Ronda to host this sporting event, the first in many months in the city due to the pandemic. “It is a tremendous illusion to host a sporting event like this again here, at home. It has been many months of stoppage, of closed facilities. It will also be very positive for the Ronda economy. We want to return to normality and for this reason we show our support from the City Council ”, said Mirasol, who also praised the work carried out by the Badmiton Ronda Club.
“To thank the City Council and the Badmiton Ronda Club for hosting the event, which is very important because it is the first to be held after the summer and serves as a touchstone for the best players with a view to participating in the Spanish Championship for a few weeks. later “, explained Lucas Quirós, member of the management team of the Spanish Badminton Federation, who highlighted that Ronda has hosted different events over the last few years at all levels with excellent results in its organization. “Ronda has magnificent facilities for practicing this sport,” Quirós pointed out in this regard.
Fran Gil, president of the Ronda Badminton Club and the only member of the same who competes in this event, recalled that this is the third time that Ronda has hosted national badminton, in this case at the senior level in all modalities. These are players from 30 years old to super veterans with more than 60 years, as has also been indicated, with the participation of clubs from all over Spain. “It is a pride that Ronda welcomes this event, both for sports and tourism and for us as a club it is a responsibility and a satisfaction to organize it,” said Gil. In addition to the games, parallel activities have also been programmed with the collaboration of Turismo de Ronda, which will include a guided tour this Friday and on Saturday a Ronda wine tasting at the Centro Integral del Vino with the Milamores company. “For us it is important that in addition to the sporting part, the players also have other incentives and enjoy their stay here,” said the president of the Ronda Badminton Club. On the other hand, for the correct development of the fifth round of the National Senior Badminton Circuit, there will also be twenty volunteers from both the Ronda Badminton Club and other clubs.
On Saturday the competition will start at 09.00 hours. Thanks to the management of the City Council of Ronda, the organizers have explained, 200 games can be held that day on the ten courts that will be enabled for 12 hours of competition. Sunday will be the semifinals and the final as well as the trophy delivery at noon.
