I worked with him for two years when I was the national coach of the Dutch national team. About Luuk de Jong who played his first minutes at FC Barcelona on Wednesday in a closed exhibition game with AE Prat. “I was always surprised that Barcelona didn’t have a type like Luuk in the selection. He has different things up his sleeve than our other attackers. He can be played more directly, works very well up front and he can make a difference. I have been in contact with him since the beginning of August. I wanted a different type of attacker and I thought of him because I know him very well. I am very happy that he has joined us.”
Future
Koeman also discussed his future at FC Barcelona. He describes himself as “a club man who always wants to help Barcelona and look for ways to improve the team while keeping the club going. The near future looks great. I hope to be able to train our young players for the next three, four or five years.”
