MotoGP: Quartararo takes second place in San Marino after spectacular duel with Bagnaia

The duel was breathtaking between the two strong men in the paddock. On the Marco Simoncelli circuit in San Marino, the scenario for the MotoGP race was quick to unveil on Sunday. Starting from pole position and leading almost from start to finish, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) quickly broke away from his competitors to go for a second consecutive victory, after the GP of Aragon, ahead of Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) and Enea Bastianini ( Ducati), which offered its first podium in the premier class.

Facilitated by the advance taken over the first laps, the Italian’s task nevertheless became more complex when Fabio Quartararo managed to erase Jack Miller (Ducati), just over 10 laps from the finish. Relegated to nearly two seconds behind his main rival in the general classification, “El Diablo” began a fantastic comeback, grabbing two to three tenths with each passage over the line.

Under pressure, Bagnaia saw the French driver return in his mirrors as he entered the final lap of the circuit. Quartararo then pushed, in vain. Francesco Bagnaia deprives the Habs of a sixth success this season, but the Yamaha rider still has a very comfortable lead overall (48 points), with four Grands Prix to go to the end of the season.
