Lowry will wear number 7 on the Heat with permission from Dragic

Kyle Lowry will continue to wear number 7 in Miami. After using that number in eight of his nine seasons with the Raptors, it was not clear if the point guard would keep him in his time in Florida, but the franchise has confirmed that it will be by publishing a photograph of the player wearing a Heat jersey with the 7. This number previously belonged to Goran Dragic, who was sent to Toronto with Precious Achiwa to make room for Lowry and whom Lowry has requested permission to use.

This is what Tim Reynolds, of The Asociated Press, who reports that the Slovenian has not complained about Kyle’s request. It does seem more complicated that Goran can use the 7 in the Raptors, since it seems that the intention of the Canadian franchise is to remove Lowry’s jersey at some point, which would implicitly veto the number for him.

The point guard had worn the 7 in practically all his stage in the NBA, since, although he started using the 1 in his first two seasons, he soon changed to this number. The only exception was the 2012-13 season, the first in Toronto, in which Andrea Bargniani had that number, but Kyle took it a year later when the Italian was traded to the Knicks. Since then, the 7 has accompanied him in his six All-Star Games and in his conquest of the championship ring, and he will continue to do so in everything he achieves as a Heat player.
