Lionel Messi: A “miracle goal” for PSG against Manchester City

By his standards, it was a long time before the first PSG goal. Now Lionel Messi has started on the Seine – and how!

Lionel Messi has opened his goal account for France’s noble club Paris Saint-Germain in an impressive manner. The Argentine scored in the Champions League game against last year’s finalist Manchester City to make it 2-0, turning the Parc des Princes into a madhouse.

Then he enthused Canal+: “It was the perfect evening against a great opponent. (…) I’m very happy with my goal after I couldn’t play recently.” He is now getting used to it “step by step”, the star attacker continues.

Lionel Messi versus ManCity: Lineker raves about “miracle goal”

Messi had slipped the ball past Ederson in the 72nd minute after fine dribbling and a one-two with Kylian Mbappe. The English ex-national striker Gary Lineker raved about Twitter of a “miracle gate”.

For six-time world footballer Messi, it was the first goal in the PSG jersey. In his first three games for Paris, Messi hadn’t managed to make a goal participation, in the past few days he had been absent due to a knee injury.

“The important thing is that we keep winning,” said Messi. “Our interaction will keep getting better, game by game. We have to grow and improve together. (…) We still have a lot of things that we can improve.”

Lionel Messi scores again against Pep Guardiola

Messi has now scored at least one goal in 17 consecutive Champions League seasons. He set a record that Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema had set just a few minutes earlier against Sheriff Tiraspol.

And Messi now holds another record. One that Pep Guardiola should not like: since the striker and his former mentor parted ways, no player in the premier class has scored more goals against Guardiola’s teams. Messi is now on six goals against Pep teams (four against City, two against Bayern).
