Herbert also relies on Dennis Schröder

NBA star Dennis Schröder is said to play an important role in the German national basketball team under the new national coach Gordon Herbert.

The 62-year-old Canadian said in an interview with Sport1 that, like all the other players, he would seek a conversation with Schröder and hope to be accepted. At the Olympic qualification and the games in Tokyo, the early 28-year-old player was absent due to unresolved insurance issues.

“It’s obvious that Dennis is a very talented player. We hope he will play. Dennis is a player who makes all the difference,” said Herbert. Schröder, who will be active for the Boston Celtics in the North American professional league, “has represented his country with great passion in the past. I hope it will be the same in the future,” said Herbert.

The long-standing Bundesliga coach also wants to get in touch with the former German NBA star Dirk Nowitzki. The 43-year-old from Würzburg, who played for the Dallas Mavericks for two decades, is ambassador for the 2022 European Home Championship. “Dirk is currently involved with the Mavericks again. Hopefully when I’m in the States I can talk to Dirk and then let’s see what happens next, “said Herbert.
