Head of EU Delegation to Turkey Meyer-Landrut played basketball in Mardin:

MARDIN (AA) – Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, “Especially in this period, it is more important than ever to be able to do sports and be more active. In this context, our reliable partner KfW invested 25 million Euros in order to establish sports facilities throughout the country. Mardin is one of the provinces where these facilities will be established.” said.

Ambassador Landrut, who came to the city to make various contacts, attended the closing ceremony of the “European Mobility Week” organized within the scope of the “Strengthening the Vulnerable Youth with Youth and Sports Infrastructure Project” at the Yeni Artuklu Sports Hall.

Landrut stated that he was pleased to be in Mardin at the ceremony and said that sports are extremely important for a healthy, active and happy life.

Noting that they are now trying to be more active, active and doing sports in these times when they hope they are approaching the end of the epidemic, Landrut said, “It is more important than ever to be able to do sports, to be more active, especially in this period. In order to establish sports facilities across the country, within this framework, our reliable partner KfW has reached a 25 million dollar mark. We are investing in euros. Mardin is one of the provinces where these facilities will be established.” he said.

Governor Mahmut Demirtaş, on the other hand, explained that the human tragedy in Syria, which started in 2011, brought with it one of the largest forced migration movements that history has ever witnessed.

Emphasizing that since the first days of this drama, written with blood and tears, the state and the nation did not remain indifferent to the wave of immigration, Demirtaş noted that he opened not only the borders but also the hearts of those who had to leave the lands where he was born and grew up.

Demirtaş stated that many projects have been implemented in different fields in order to relieve the suffering of our Syrian guests and help them maintain their lives.

Referring to the importance of the projects, Demirtaş continued as follows:

“Syrian youth and our youth will meet in a climate of friendship, peace and brotherhood in sports, and the social cohesion and communication problems we face will disappear. Our focus is on people and their most fundamental right, the right to live as a human being. We are working hard to deliver this right to its owner. EU, The United Nations, the World Bank, the German Development Bank and other stakeholders also provide significant support in solving the problems encountered with these and similar projects and activities. Undoubtedly, the increasing continuation of the support will contribute to the emergence of larger projects and the solution of problems in the coming period. is to keep the smiles on the faces of the young people and the songs from their tongues. Ahmet Temurci, General Manager of International Organizations and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said that they experienced how important sports and mobility are, especially during the epidemic process.

Stating that as the Ministry, they support all the activities and works carried out here, Temurci said, “Actually, we started to get positive results from this as well. Turkey broke the record of history in both the Olympics and the Paralympic Games. He made history by winning 13 medals in the Olympics. Klaus Müller, Director of the German Development Bank (KfW) Southeastern Europe and Turkey, said that Turkish athletes have shown great success in the Olympics and Paralympic Games, and that they want all of them to be role models.

After the speeches, the guests watched archery, shooting, karate and basketball shows.
