Mettmanner Judoka back in competition after Corona break

Mettmann. The German over30 individual judo championships took place in Bad Homburg. Lars Grimm started for Mettmann-Sport.

It was the first major national tournament after the pandemic break from competition. Lars Grimm was the only starter from Mettmann-Sport, as the club championship, long-awaited by all club members, took place on this weekend.

In Bad Homburg, Grimm competed in his class with eight other fighters. In the end, it was enough for a respectable fifth place. Lena Raabe secured the title at the U15 district championships in Velbert. She was also able to fight for a gold medal at the district tournament that was taking place at the same time. Lea Fischer and Tim Raabe each won the silver medal here.

The club championships in 2021 were the first time after a long break for many to try their way onto the podium. At the invitation of the Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium, the fights took place in the local gym. Fighters from the school judo group also registered.

Before we started, Ines Thiele and Alessandro Avveduto showed a small selection of different techniques. Cheered on by the audience, the new club champions 2021 were determined in the end: Anna Pail, Jesper Cornels, Lea Fischer, Lena Raabe, Tim Raabe, Ines Thiele, Ruslan Kehl, Moritz Kreuels, Gabriel Landau, Oliver Backes, Leander Rasch, Denis Schröder. Felix Meyer was the youngest participant to receive a trophy of honor.
