Griezmann charged a signing premium despite paying the clause

Despite Barça depositing 120 million in Antoine Griezmann’s termination clause in the league to sign him from Atlético de Madrid in 2019, the Barça club compensated the Frenchman with a signing bonus of 5 million d ‘euros. The newspaper Sport has had access to the contract signed by the striker and reveals this and other issues about the salary reality and the bonuses of a footballer who is now back in the mattress discipline on condition of transfer.

The contract that Griezmann signed when Josep Maria Bartomeu was president of Barça consisted of a progressive salary. The Frenchman received in his first year a fixed salary of 17 million euros gross, while in the last year (2023-24) he would have received 21. In total, 95 million gross in base salary at the end of the five seasons he signed. To this must be added the bonuses, some very easy to achieve, that the player had agreed. The striker had stipulated 2.5 million each year just for playing 60% of matches, and also received 0.5 million if Barça overcame the group stage of the Champions League and one million more to reach the quarterfinals of this competition, among other variables.

Between fixed salary and bonuses, Griezmann received 25.5 million gross (including the bonus to sign for Barça of 5 million euros) of 33.5 possible in his first season as a Barça player, while the last course received 21 million gross of 29.5 possible. It was a priority for Barça’s managers to get rid of the French striker’s record and, in addition, if he had stayed at Barça, Griezmann had already agreed on a loyalty bonus from this season, which was 7 million this season and 6.5 million each of the two more years of contract until 2024.
