Gosen’s injury overshadows Bergamo’s win

Atalanta Bergamo’s first victory in this Champions League season was overshadowed by the injury to German national soccer player Robin Gosens. The full-back was replaced after eleven minutes in the 1-0 win against Swiss champions Young Boys Bern on Wednesday evening.

He was injured without any external influence, but there is still no diagnosis. It is therefore questionable whether the 27-year-old Gosens can be nominated for the international matches against Romania (October 8) and North Macedonia (October 11) in the World Cup qualification. National coach Hansi Flick wants to announce his squad on Friday.

The winning goal in the Bergamo game, which was led by the German referee Felix Brych, scored Matteo Pessina (68th). The ball crossed the line once in the first half, but Sandro Lauper’s own goal was not recognized. Atalanta captain Rafael Toloi was offside.

The Bernese, trained by ex-Schalke coach David Wagner, surprised Manchester United with a 2-1 home win on matchday one, Bergamo had separated from FC Villarreal 2-2.

In addition, Zenit St. Petersburg prevailed 4-0 against Malmö FF from Sweden. Claudinho brought the Russian home side in the front (9th), before Daler Kusjajew (49th), Alexei Sutormin (80th) and Wendel (90th +4) made things clear.

The sovereign performance was favored by a dismissal against Anel Ahmedhodzic, who wanted to prevent a counterattack with his hands.

Cristiano Ronaldo has set the next record in the Champions League. The football professional from Manchester United stood on Wednesday evening in a 2-1 (0-0) against Villarreal for the 178th time in the highest European competition and crowned his appearance with the winning goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
