It’s one of the great stories of the competition. Before participating in the creation of the club of Basly, last spring, Benjamin Turlet had never played a single match of French Cup. “Like all my teammates with one or two exceptions,” he smiles. Sunday, September 19, 2021, he will be one of the actors in the shock of extremes in Normandy. His team, which evolves at the lowest possible level (Departmental 4) will welcome Cherbourg, solid resident of National 3. Seven divisions will separate the opponents of the day.

We will have to be united and efficient. It doesn’t scare me, we’ll all be focused.

Benjamin Turlet, 21, is a central defender. After trying his hand at karate and judo, he has only been playing football for five years. It was in Courseulles, the only club he had known before this season, that the Baslian idea germinated. “We talked about it in training. We said to ourselves: “it would be good if we took over a club”. Adrien (Lair, the young coach, editor’s note) threw us into it. Basly, not far away, with its facilities but without a team, quickly established itself as obvious.

A weekend of painting and cleaning

The new and young management team quickly got into action. Here, the investment is obvious.

The renovation of the stadium was the first point we addressed. It had been abandoned since 2016. There was everything to do again.

About fifteen players gathered for a weekend to repaint, repair, sweep, even if it meant disturbing the tranquility of the spiders who had invaded the place.

Basly prepared accordingly

Benjamin Turlet had taken advantage of his profession as a plumber to contribute to common action. In the third round of the Coupe de France, he will try to fill any leaks in front of Cherbourg. “I watched a few videos and went to see them play in National 3. There will be a lot of work,” he anticipates. But Basly has prepared accordingly.

We went to three training sessions per week. Our goal was to play against a team of this caliber. In any case, we will have won the cup.

“We have convictions and ambitions”

Basly could not hope for a more beautiful baptism than this beginning of adventure in the Coupe de France. “We will remember it! It makes talk about us. The Coupe de France was an opportunity to prove things, to show that we were not just a team of friends. We’re not here to just have a drink. We have convictions and ambitions. “

AFB “wants to become a great club” and climb the ladder, with the rise in sight and the constitution of new teams in the near future. In the meantime, the 25 licensees are preparing for a big day in front of several hundred spectators. This is also the magic of the cup.
