From the Eredivisie to bivouac in the lower regions of the Kitchen Champion Division for a season. Emmen’s supporters probably already saw the mood after the weak start to the season and the goal of MVV player Sven Blummel in the 22nd minute. The players from Drenthe thought otherwise, because the goal of the Limburgers turned out to be a ‘wake-up call’. MVV was eventually defeated 7-1.
It must be said that Emmen was helped in the saddle by MVV goalkeeper Thijmen Nijhuis. He missed Jeredy Hilterman’s 1-1 and Rui Mendes’ 2-1. With Emmen’s third goal, the keeper had no chance. Azzeddine Toufiqui shot the ball beautifully with the outside of his foot, through the bottom of the bar.
After the break Emmen had nothing to fear from MVV. Mendes made two more, Hilterman made another contribution and Ben Scholte scored his first goal in the first division.
