Europa League and Conference: two frustrating draws for OM and Rennes

Dominators, the Phocéens, who had opened the scoring in Moscow, were joined in the last seconds in the Europa League, while the Bretons held up to Tottenham, favorite in the Europa League conference.

OM poorly paid

Currently third in Ligue 1 (10 points, with a game late against Nice), the Marseillais came very close to a good performance on the lawn of Lokomotiv Moscow (Group E). But after opening the scoring, thanks to a goal from Cengiz Ünder, scored on a penalty on the hour mark, and despite a numerical superiority, they were joined in the score (1-1). What pester so much this reworked OM – with the tenure of Alvaro Gonzalez and the presence on the bench of Dimitri Payet, while, in goals, Pau Lopes had still been preferred to Steve Mandanda – quickly took the game to his account .

Without however managing to worry the Moscow goalkeeper in the first period, while Lokomotiv Moscow touched wood on a strike from Smolov (31st). The Marseillais were more opportunistic after the break, finding the fault on penalty, after a fault of Tiknizyan on Ünder. Marseille, which was advancing towards a victory – after a European campaign totally missed last season (only 3 points taken against Olympiakos in the Champions League) – was trapped one minute from the end of regulation time, on a strike from the right of Faustino Anjorin who deceived Pau Lopez.

Rennes encouraging

The Rennais went through all the emotions against Tottenham, one of the big favorites of this Europa League Conference (2-2), a new continental competition. The evening had started badly for the Bretons, led to the score after ten minutes of play, following a deflection of Badé, who by wanting to counter a shot from Lucas, deceived his own goalkeeper. Beaten in the last two days of Ligue 1, they went ahead despite everything, with a strike from Bourigeaud, rejected by Gollini.

Rennes would quickly be rewarded for his efforts. With a first goal, on a nice curled shot from Tait, which allowed his team to come back to score (23rd). Then thanks to Laborde who, alone against the empty cage, after a first attempt by Sulemana, pushed the ball to the back of the net (72nd). The feat was close, but it was without counting on the experienced Höjbjerg, who, with a quarter of the end, put the two teams even.
