Eline Berings ends career: “It was a great trip” | Athletics

The farewell of Eline Berings is not a big surprise. Berings had previously announced that she would stop, but due to the postponement of the Olympic Games to 2021, she decided to go for it one more time. Unfortunately, she missed a ticket to Tokyo by a hair.

Despite some serious injuries, Berings can look back on a great career. She has 12 Belgian titles in the 60m hurdles and 5 Belgian titles in the 100m hurdles.

The Belgian record in the 60m hurdles is still in her name. In 2009, Berings ran 7″92 at the European Indoor Championships in Turin, where she became European champion, her greatest success.

Berings last came into action at a meeting in Lucerne at the end of June. Tomorrow evening she will be honored at the Memorial Van Damme.

“I wanted to run some competitions, but the motivation to train is still missing,” writes Berings on Instagram. “I’m glad I kept going as long as I could. I would have loved to say goodbye at the highest level in Tokyo, but unfortunately that didn’t work out.

“Still it has been an amazing journey. I have so many beautiful stories and memories. Sport has given me so much and I am grateful for that. Now it is time to turn the page.”
