Do you have a disability? Here are the solutions for playing sports in the Nièvre

The Nièvre disabled sports committee is mobilizing more than ever, in the wake of the Tokyo Paralympic Games and before the Dream day of Saturday 11 September, so that Nivernais and Nivernaises with disabilities (physical, visual or auditory) can practice a sports activity.

Discover and register for the Dream day in the Morvan

Currently, in the Nièvre, here are the clubs that offer a handisport section: archery in La Charité-sur-Loire; ASAV climbing, triathlon in Varennes-Vauzelles; Abysse club Nivernais (diving) in Nevers; Activital nautical base (sailing) in Baye and Les Settons; Friendly badminton of Nevers; ASF-USON athletics in Nevers; ASPTT Nevers tennis; Nivernais canoe club in Nevers; Nevers nautical club; Dream association in the Morvan; Élan Nevers Nièvre table tennis; Espérance canoe Decize / Saint-Léger; Handi olympique omnisports in Varennes-Vauzelles; the Écuries des Écots in Sauvigny-les-Bois; Roller club Nivernais in Nevers; UCS badminton spirit in Cosne-sur-Loire; Clamecy bike club; Volants de Nevers (badminton) and Handicapables (at the APF Imphy center).

Armchair basketball in Varennes-Vauzelles, new for the start of the school year

New for this 2021 school year: wheelchair basketball in Varennes-Vauzelles, with the basketball section of Asav. This activity is aimed at able-bodied or disabled people, women or men, young or old.

The appropriate equipment will be provided by the departmental handisport committee of Nièvre: the chairs being “cut” to allow contact, in particular with a “bumper”, inclined wheels and a “rear” wheel to be protected in the event of a fall. A team sport to be tested on the Vauzellian parquet floor.

For this activity, as for all the others, the Nièvre handisport committee is the essential partner.

An individual interview with “choose your sport”

Thanks to its “choose your sport” action, the committee can offer free practice for the first year (except for club fees). “With” choose your sport “, there is an individual interview with me”, details Élodie Galvaing-Gauthier, project manager of the Nièvre handisport committee, “with a questionnaire to assess the abilities, find out where the person resides … As much information that must be taken into account when trying a sporting activity ”.
During this meeting, all the parameters are discussed. Including the appropriate equipment, quite simply essential.

Paratriathlon in the Nièvre: Sabrina and Christelle form a voluntary duo

The most difficult thing for Élodie Galvaing-Gauthier is to know and meet people with disabilities. “We are going to set up actions with the Sessads (special education and care service and at home) to inform parents and children of sports that can be practiced in the department.
This difficulty is mainly explained by the fact that sport is very rarely a priority for parents, and that the schedules of children with disabilities are often very overloaded by medical or paramedical appointments.

For all those who would like to try a sport, contact the departmental handisport committee of Nièvre, at 06.23.31.21.17, mail: [email protected]
