Rose Prince and Nolan Turgeon Named Athletes of the Year at Cégep de Victoriaville Méritas Gala

On the occasion of the Méritas Gala of the Cégep de Victoriaville, held at the Hôtel Le Victorin convention center, Rose Prince (badminton) and Nolan Turgeon (cross-country) were respectively elected female athlete and male athlete of the year for the Vulkins.

Having been a runner since he entered high school, Nolan Turgeon was very proud to get his hands on a $600 scholarship and obtain this honor, for a second successive year. “I’m really happy honestly. It ends my journey with the Vulkins really well. It really is the icing on the sundae. It’s just gratifying to receive this honor,” he said.

“To train 20 hours a week and see that it pays off, it’s really nice. I plan to race professionally. This is my goal for the future,” continued the man who will continue his academic career at the University of Sherbrooke.

In second place for boys’ athlete of the year, Nicola Lebel (football) received a $300 scholarship. In third place, William Béland (hockey) got his hands on a check for $100.

Winning the title of female athlete of the year, Rose Prince was also very happy to receive this honor as well as a $600 scholarship. “I find it very pleasant. I’m a little feverish. I don’t realize it yet. I think it’s a great honor to win this. It means that the efforts I made have paid off and I am very grateful to have won this prize,” expressed the badminton player.

“We had practices two to three times a week. When I knew I was going to the provincials, I invested even more in my sport. Next year, I will continue in badminton. I thought about stopping, but ultimately it gave me the desire to continue in my sport,” she added.

For the women’s section, Eugénie Gosselin (volleyball) took second position with a $300 purse. Roxanne Michaud (rugby) finished in third place.
