Details of a Free Basketball Program for Allentown Students ONLY | sports

ALLENTOWN, Pa.- The Fall Basketball Program ‘King of the Court’ (Rey del Campo) from the Allentown Parks and Recreation Department will be offered from October 4 to November 24 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Mondays in the South Mountain Middle School gym and Wednesdays in the Trexler gym Middle School. The free eight-week basketball basics program is offered to children in grades five through eight who attend school in Allentown.

In its opening session in person, the program is an opportunity to learn basketball skills in a relaxed, fun and friendly environment. Pre-registration is required in www.allentownparksandrec.com. Parents will need to create an account, receive approval, and then register their child prior to the start of the program. The program will follow the guidelines of the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the CDC to make activities as safe and fun as possible for all participants.

“Modeled after the successful Queen of the Court program, King of the Court offers a similar program to children,” said Mayor Ray O’Connell. “Our junior high school basketball programs have a long history of success and begin by teaching elementary and middle school kids the fundamentals.”

“This is a great way to not only learn the fundamentals of basketball, but also life skills, team building and improving self-esteem,” said Karen El-Chaar, Director of Parks and Recreation.

South Mountain Middle School is located at 709 W. Emmaus Ave. Allentown, PA 18103. The gym entrance is at Church St. Trexler Middle School is located at 851 N. 15th St. Allentown PA 18102. All visitors must use the Entrance .
