Badminton is the protagonist of the current School Sports Games

Badminton Championship54 athletes gathered in this first championship, which allowed the pens to fly again in Antofagasta.

The School Sports Games continue in the Antofagasta Region. To the taekwondo event held last week, the first Badminton championship was added this Sunday, September 12, in which 54 young people participated, representatives of 13 educational units of the regional capital.

In the four courts arranged in the Guibaldo Ormazábal Gymnasium, 77 matches were played in the Under 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 categories, in single modality for both men and women. Most of the athletes are part of the training and high performance sports programs of the Mindep-IND, Crecer en Movimiento and Promesas Chile respectively.

In Sub 17 ladies, the winners were Camila Astorga (The Antofagasta Baptist College) and Valentina Rojas (Colegio Antofagasta); In Under 15 boys, the gold went to Martín Olmos (Colegio San Luis) and Didier Pizarro (Colegio San Patricio), while women were led by Janette Campusano (Liceo Experimental Artístico).

Regarding the children’s representatives, the Sub 13 ladies remained in the hands of Alexandra Campusano (Liceo Experimental Artístico) who was also recognized as the outstanding athlete of the event, while Carlos Toro (Colegio San Luis) was the winner. As for the Sub 11, it was commanded by Fabián Díaz (The Antofagasta Baptist College) and Daniela Zamorano (Antofagasta International School), closing with the Sub 9 where Maximiliano Cepeda (Paul Swanne College) and Gabriel Mujica (Colegio Santa Teresita) stood out.

The Seremi del Deporte, Roberto Meza, said that during the day “we saw boys very excited to compete again, even some frustrated at not achieving the victory, but all of this is part of the learning generated by sport. As Mindep-IND we are going to continue generating these instances, maintaining all health care, so that more young people can compete, which is essential for their development as athletes ”.

Camila Astorga (16) badminton player from the Promises Chile program, commented that “I have not competed for two years and it is a great feeling to be back on the slopes. For me this championship means a lot because it serves as a preparation for the next South American ”.

Sports competitions in the region do not stop, since the Trasandina Youth Sports Games (Judejut) Chile 2021 will be added, which will have the regional capital as the headquarters of men’s cycling, a circuit that will take place in the La sector. Rinconada, from November 7 to 10.
