Anete Lāce will represent Latvia in the Olympic qualification in figure skating

The Lombardia Trophy at the ISU Challenger Series in Italy last week saw a national selection for the upcoming Olympic qualifiers. It was planned that Lāce, Angelīna Kučvaļska and Marija Bolsheva would compete for a ticket to the qualification, but due to injuries and other reasons, Kučvaļska and Bolshev could not participate in these matches.

Lace won the 23rd place in the competition in Italy in the competition of 31 figure skaters. In the short program, she was 19th with 48.16 points, but in the elective program she received 75.94 points, which was the 24th result.

The Olympic qualifying competition “CS Nebelhorn Trophy” will take place in Oberstdorf from September 22 to 25, where the last six tickets to Beijing will be distributed in the women’s competition.

At the World Championships in Stockholm at the end of March, Deniss Vasiljevs won 18th place, thus providing Latvia with one quota in the Beijing Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, in the women’s competition, Kuchalski took 33rd place in the short program and did not get the right to participate in the selection program, as well as was left without a ticket to the Olympic Games. In the men’s and women’s competitions, the 24th place was enough to get a ticket.

At the Pyongyang Olympic Games, Latvia was represented in figure skating by Vasiljevs and Diāna Nikitina, who has not started and turned to the coaching profession in recent years. In the women’s competition for Latvia, the ticket was won by Kuchalski at that time, but in the Olympic season she struggled with injuries and was unable to show her best performance.
