CB Santurtzi will kick off a new “competitive and tough” EBA season against Baskonia on Saturday

CB Santurtzi will start a new season at EBA on Saturday. The purple ones, who will continue to command Iñigo Núñez, have a “tough” season ahead of them. Even so, those of the Left Bank take to the field with a “very reinforced” squad and with the aim of “competing on all the tracks and winning on those where we couldn’t.”

Start a new one. How is the team?

I am satisfied with the level, this week we are training very well and the fact of losing the semifinal of the Euskal Kopa made us see that what we were doing was not enough and we have to give more.

– What goals do you set for yourself?

I think we have a better team than last year in which we finished third. So the idea is, at least, to match the season. We want to compete on all the tracks and win on those where we couldn’t, go without complexes to all the fields and not wait for a pinch of luck.

A tough season ahead?

Yes, it will be a tough, competitive league. Last year we played 20 games and this will be 30, we meet again with Cantabrian teams and some Castilian-Leonese with important important budgets that are normally up. They have all been strengthened and prepared for a season in which there will be 16 teams and six relegations, which seems like an absolute lag to me. It is clear that all the teams are going to make us suffer and bring out our best version to win.

– How do you face your second campaign in charge of CB Santurtzi?

With enthusiasm and joy because there are people in the stands again. Playing at home with the public changes everything. It will be my first season with friends and players up there and they are going to make Mikel Trueba a boiler. At a sporting level with a lot of responsibility because it is the team of my people and the club of my life and I want to do it well.

– How many new faces are there and how are they adapting?

We are thirteen, we have renewed nine and incorporated four. Pablo Albisu returns to the team, a player who will be very important, Miguel Zamora who will be a qualitative leap. Unai Barandalla, of an important and hard-working human quality, arrives in full physical condition and eager to break down the door. We have Ander Pérez, the ceiling of Bizkaia because it measures 2.18.

It was not possible to revalidate the title at the Euskal Kopa

It was a stick, but sportingly it will come in handy to know in what things we have failed, we also lost against the league champion last year, so it was within the logic. We were excited, but this is preseason and what really matters starts on Saturday.

You debut against Baskonia on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. How will the game be?

It will be very tough for sure, two weeks ago we faced them in Euskal Kopa and we won by four points, but it was a real physical battle. The fight for the rebound was brutal and I think it will be the decisive aspect that will tip the balance.
