‘Ajax still without Stekelenburg against Sporting Portugal’

Ajax will reportedly have to do without Maarten Stekelenburg against Sporting Portugal on Wednesday evening. The goalkeeper seemed to have recovered in time from a groin injury, but according to sources, he dropped out injured.

Last weekend Stekelenburg also missed the away game against PEC Zwolle due to a groin injury. Ajax coach Erik ten Hag reported on Tuesday evening at the press conference in which he looked ahead to the Champions League match with Sporting Portugal, however, that Stekelenburg was fit again. ‘Yes, he is completely fit’, was the terse confirmation from Ten Hag.

However, Stekelenburg had to drop out on the day of the match. The experienced keeper is still too much hindered by his injury and will not be part of the match selection against Sporting Portugal on Wednesday evening. Most likely, Remko Pasveer will defend the goal, just like last Saturday against PEC Zwolle.
