Wild takes off in crash-marred scratch and finishes fifth

Kirsten Wild has started the omnium fairly well. On the scratch, marred by serious crashes, the first of four parts in the omnium, she sprinted to fifth place.

In the last two laps we saw two crashes, the last one in particular had major consequences. Italy’s Elisa Balsamo fell first, after which almost half of the peloton bounced over the unfortunate rider. Among others, the Belgian Lotte Kopecky and the British Laura Kenny were among the main victims.

The jury chairman was also hit by the falling riders in the courtyard and had to be removed by stretcher.

Wild continues and becomes fifth

Wild got a little boxed in and had to settle for fifth place behind American Jennifer Valente, Japan’s Yumi Kajihara and Australia’s Anette Edmondson and Norway’s Anita Stenberg.

Later tonight, the tempo race (03:45), the elimination race (04:26) and the final points race (05:25) will follow. Everything can be followed on NPO 1 and via our livestream.
