Vettel after Lando Norris crash in Spa: “The Q3 should never have started” | formula 1

“What did I say? Red flag. This is really unnecessary.” Vettel reacted furiously over the on-board radio when he was told that Lando Norris had driven in the set. Vettel also stopped briefly to see if everything was okay with Norris.

“When I drove towards Eau Rouge and then uphill, there was a lot of water and I shouted for the red flag,” said Vettel. The Q3 session should never have started. It is better to be too safe once than not safe enough once.”

The German went with his car to check if everything was okay with Norris.

Vettel had a clear view of things, noted our colleagues from the RTBF. “They are considering making changes to the Raidillon, but I don’t think that would have changed anything in this case.”

“They may have made the Eau Rouge too fast for the speed they should have there. That wasn’t the case a few years ago. Maybe we should go back to that version of the circuit. When the track is soaked, come one too quickly for these circumstances.”

It reminded Charles Leclerc of Anthoine Hubert’s fatal accident 2 years ago. “It reminds me and everyone in the paddock of the dark days of 2 years ago. We lost a friend, a good rider. It was in the same corner, so it was sad to see. On the other hand, I’m happy that Lando could just walk away. He will have some checks done, but he seems fine. That was good to see.”
