Transfer market: That’s how much money HSV has for new players

At least since the belly smack in the city derby at St. Pauli (2: 3), the HSV bosses know that they have to act. At least two new professionals should come by the end of the transfer period in two weeks. The good news: Whereas the decision-makers previously had to turn over every euro three times, they now have a decent budget.

In terms of sport, HSV drove a dithering course in the first few weeks of the season with four points from three games, but at least financially things were going well. Amadou Onana (20 / moved to Lille) poured seven million euros into the club’s coffers, with Klaus Gjasula (31 / free transfer to Darmstadt), HSV saves around 400,000 euros in residual salary this season. Jeremy Dudziak’s (25) move to Fürth has also been dry since Monday. The HSV collects around 800,000 euros. A good deal.

HSV recently surrendered three midfielders

The bottom line is plenty of coal – but also three central midfielders less. It goes without saying that the bosses urgently need and will upgrade. The main search is in the center and for the offensive flank.

Sports director Jonas Boldt, sports director Michael Mutzel and scouting manager Claus Costa are working hard on solutions. But how much money can they take in hand? In any case, significantly more than before. According to MOPO information, the sporting leadership is allowed to spend at least three million euros, the supervisory boards of the AG are said to have agreed on this. For comparison: HSV only spent around 2.3 million euros on its previous seven additions to the season. Robert Glatzel (came from Cardiff) was the most expensive with a transfer fee of one million euros.

The HSV must expect further millions in losses

But it is also certain that the bosses are not allowed to squander all the millions earned on the transfer market directly. Mainly because due to the corona pandemic it is still not clear how many fans will still be allowed to flock to the Volkspark during the season (currently 17,100 per game). Further significant losses of millions are guaranteed.

When does HSV present the next new one? It is possible that something will happen before the Darmstadt game on Sunday. The very hot transfer phase is not expected internally until the coming week. Then, a few days before the end of the period, many Bundesliga clubs will want to give up players at the last minute – and prices will drop. HSV is lurking for this, despite its available budget.

This is how the HSV bosses look for new players

The bosses rely on the division of labor in the implementation of their plans. While Boldt has good contacts in the Bundesliga, Mutzel and Costa are currently mainly abroad and are holding talks. Like the Scandinavian market, the Dutch market remains extremely interesting for HSV, and loan deals are always an option. The HSV must then have upgraded in 14 days at the latest – in order to actually have a say in the matter of the promotion.
