The Spanish Championship of Medium Distance Triathlon and Aquabike will be held again at the Bilbao Triathlon on September 18, after the success of the last edition under the impulse of Innevento, despite the limitations due to the pandemic last year, with a victory of Javier Gómez Noya.
The esplanade of the Maritime Museum will once again be the main center of the competition activities, since it will have the transition area and the start and finish area, the axis of the 1.9 kilometer swimming routes in the Ría; 82.5 of the cycling segment one lap with a new climb from Larrabetzu to Morga; and the final 21 kilometers of the final foot race in three laps of a seven-kilometer circuit along the Ría promenade, reaching the Guggenheim Museum or the Ripa Pier, in addition to crossing the emblematic Euskalduna bridge.
Juan Mari Aburto, Mayor of Bilbao, and who attended the 2020 edition in Bilbao live, valued this Wednesday as «an honor for the city to host this Championship for the second consecutive year, which has already acquired a new category within the world of sports and does so in Bilbao, a city that not only carries out these types of events with rigor and professionalism, but also enjoys them ».

Last year, the five-time world champion Javier Gómez Noya was the main protagonist of the competition. His presence was a leap in quality for the test, as the Galician worked hard to show his class to the fans who came to witness the event. In women, his wife Anneke Jenkins won, while the Spanish championship went to Laura Gómez.
