The Government announced the return of the public to the soccer fields: it will start with Argentina-Bolivia, for the Qualifiers

Press conference of Minister Carla Vizzotti with Minister Matías Lammens

The month of September will finally be designated for the return of the public to the Argentine soccer fields. Gradually, fans will go to the fields to continue a process of “normalization” after the total restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic that have been in force since March 2020. This was announced by government authorities after the agreement with the AFA and the League Professional.

In a press conference, the Minister of Health Carla Vizzotti and the Minister of Tourism and Sports Matías Lammens confirmed the measure that will have its international premiere. “The news we have is that we are going to do a pilot test on September 9, at the Monumental stadium, the day the Argentine men’s soccer team plays against Bolivia. In principle, with a capacity of 30 percent “said Lammens, who reported on the agreement with Claudio Tapia (president of the AFA) and the details that remain to be finalized regarding the protocols with the Ministry of Health.

“It will be a pilot test, the first step for the public to return not only to sports events and football but to all mass events. We believe that it is an event that deserves this exception because of what it means and because it allows us to make an evaluation about how these protocols are going to be implemented “, expanded Lammens, who announced that the provision will be extended to all local tournaments and the rest of the sports and federations for next month in case the test is satisfactory. “The idea is that the return is gradual, that the experience is a pilot test and by the end of September we will be with the public in the stadiums surely under the same conditions of this pilot test,” he added.

The last time Argentina played with an audience at the Monumental was in 2017 against Venezuela (Almicar Orfali)

For his part, Vizzotti assured that this implementation is not reckless despite the Delta variant since “we have been working with great responsibility and we will continue to monitor to minimize risks. Shows will be implemented and capacity and controls will progress after the pilot test. And decisions will be made regarding the epidemiological situation ”.

Therefore, next Thursday, September 9, when Argentina receives Bolivia for Date 10 of the South American Qualifiers on the way to Qatar 2022, the stadium Antonio Vespucio Liberti it will have almost a third of its capacity (more than 20 thousand spectators).

It is worth mentioning that from the Argentine Football Association and the LPF they prepared a sanitary protocol for the attendance of the fans to the stadiums that was subject to the approval of the Government of the Nation through its Ministry of Health. Lammens explained that in the next few days there will be defining meetings to prepare the attendance manual: for now it is only specified that it will be with 30% of the capacity.
