The 26 No. 1 in the world in singles in the 48 years of the ATP ranking

Exactly 48 years ago, the ATP shaped the counts and officially created the world rankings. On that August 23, 1973, the official list was born, which is renewed week after week, with the only exceptions being Mondays of the second week of a Grand Slam. Here, the 26 men who reached No. 1 in the world in singles.

Romanian Ilie Nastase was the first to reach the top of the men’s individual rankings. Over the years, many figures on the circuit climbed to the top and this year the Serbian Novak Djokovic broke the record mark that the Swiss Roger Federer had.

Now Djokovic, current world No. 1, accumulates 335 weeks in the first place, followed by Federer, with 310. In terms of consecutive weeks as king, the Swiss holds the best record, with 237.

At the end of 2020, Djokovic equaled Pete Sampras’ record of six years finished as No. 1, although the American achieved a mark with a special plus, as he finished six consecutive seasons on the ATP throne.
