Tennis.-An injury leaves Paula Badosa without a semifinal in Cincinnati

MADRID, 21 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa retired this morning in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1,000 tournament in Cincinnati (United States) after being forced to say goodbye – due to a right arm injury – when she lost 7-5 and 2-0 to Czech player Karolina Pliskova.

Badosa, who came to the hard court of Cincinnati in a great moment of form – despite announcing a recent change of coach -, knew how to prove his worth at the start of the American tournament, but an injury to his right arm – quite sore right from the start – he left her with no options one week before the US Open.

That was the thought of the Catalan player, who chose to stop when she lost the second round 2-0 -after the visit of the tournament’s physiotherapist- and thus save her strength for the last ‘big’ of the season, the great event where she will seek to overcome the first round, her ceiling since she managed to participate in the women’s main draw in 2019.

In the first round on Saturday, Badosa was able to compose herself, but it was only a mirage after the initial 4-0 endorsed by Pliskova, who will now face the Swiss Jil Teichmann in the first semifinal of the tournament. The second ‘semi’ will face the Australian Ashleigh Barty and the German Angelique Kerber.
