“After I fell this morning, I thought: it’s done with those 5000 meters. No gold medal,” Hassan told the US.
“I was in pain all over and didn’t feel quite well, but I still ran the race of my life. Two laps before the end I noticed that I was actually starting to feel better, and I’m very grateful for that. The last 200 meters on the way to the finish were the most beautiful meters,” said Ellen van Langen’s successor in 1992.
