European softball this year tastes like amaretto. TO Saronno everything is ready for the official start at the Women’s European Winners Cup, the cup of cups that until 21 August will see fifteen teams from the old continent compete against each other in their respective national championships. The opening ceremony, at 8.15 pm at Campo di Via Santis, will kick off the international event organized by Saronno Softball with the patronage of the National Olympic Committee (Coni), the Lombardy Region, the Municipality of Saronno and Fibs – Italian Baseball Softball Federation. The tournament started this morning with the match between Poland and Slovakia.
Softball games, with free access and allowed only to Green Pass holders, will be played between Saronno, Legnano e Bovisio Masciago: the organizers aim to involve the wider territory that goes from Brianza to the lower Varese area up to the Altomilanese. On the competition diamond, opposing teams from all over Europe will face off: Olympia Haarlem (Netherlands), Viladecans (Spain), Eagles Prague (Czech Republic), Caroousel(Russia), Neunkirchen Nightmares (Germany), Zurich Challenger (Swiss), Crazy Chicklets (Austria), The Pharaohs (France), Chicaboo’s (Belgium), Cheetahs Zory (Poland), Fireballs (Israel), Mrki Bears (Croatia), Trnava Panthers (Slovakia) e Barracudas (Denmark).
For the girls ofInox Team Saronno trained by the coach Giovanni Palermi the first appointment is tonight at 9 pm for the match with the Austrian Crazy Chicklets. The captain will also be on the field among the Nerazzurre players Giulia Longhi which together with Fabrizia Marrone they participated with the Italian national team in the recent Tokyo Olympics. The final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup is always scheduled in Saronno on Saturday 21 August at 8 pm.
