It was exactly a year ago that No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka met her current opponent Mirra Andreeva for the only time in the round of 16 at the same place at the WTA Masters event in Madrid. At that time, the number 2 seeded Belarusian won easily in two sets 6:3, 6:1.
One round later, namely in the quarter-finals, Mirra Andreeva had the chance for revenge today, two days after her 17th birthday. After the Russian held her first serve game, the 25-year-old Sabalenka took control of the match with her powerful strokes and didn’t give up another game until the end of the first round.

The world number 2 sees itself in the semi-finals. opposite Elena Rybakina, ranked No. 4. The former Wimbledon champion defeated her Kazakh compatriot Yulia Putintseva in three hard-fought sets 4:6, 7:6 (4), 7:5 in the first quarter-finals after just under three hours.
