Sanxenxo is preparing to receive the 6M European Championship in the Pontevedra estuary

There is nothing left for the big date of the season. After a year of waiting due to the pandemic, Sanxenxo is already preparing to receive the 6-meter fleet that will be played in less than a month in the European Class Championship, a test organized by the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo with the sponsorship de Xacobeo 20-21 and that will have a luxury prelude: the VI Regatta Rey Juan Carlos El Corte Inglés Master.

As of today, 33 units from eleven countries have confirmed their participation. Teams from Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Great Britain, Finland, Portugal, Sweden, Holland, the United States and Canada will fight for the continental title in the Pontevedra estuary between the 13th and 18th of next September, and they will not miss the best.

The current European and world champion in the Classics division, the Bribon 500 of King Don Juan Carlos -which will have Pedro Campos at the helm-, will defend the title against crews of the stature of Astrée III, third in the European Championship. La Trinité-sur-Mer in 2018; the Aida de Escotet-Botas, which will have Javier de la Gándara as patron; or Íñigo Echenique’s Caprice, another of the regulars on the Spanish Cup circuit.

In Open, for its part, the Swiss team Nivola will seek to revalidate in the Pontevedra estuary the triumph obtained in the last European Championship, and for this they will have to face such powerful teams as Patrick Monteiro’s Portuguese Seljm, world runner-up in 2019; the winner of the last two World Cups, Philippe Durr’s Junior; and the also Swiss Sophie de Hugo Stenbeck, world runner-up in 2015 and winner of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE in 2018, among others.

Nine days of activity

With a first day reserved for measurements, training test and opening ceremony, it will be on Tuesday, September 14, when the Race Committee gives the first starting honk on the race course, although the vast majority of the teams will have already seen each other. the faces during the previous weekend in the sixth edition of the Rey Juan Carlos El Corte Inglés Master Regatta.

The event, which will have three days of regatta between Friday 10 and Sunday 12, will be held in the same regatta field that will host the European Championship and will be scored for the Spanish Cup circuit – Xacobeo Trophy of the class.

In total, almost ten days of maximum activity in Sanxenxo for which the club is already preparing at a frantic pace.
