RTL event “I’m a star – get me out of here!”: Will there be a camp in Australia in 2022 or just another show in Germany? – Media – Society

What do Costa Cordalis, Ingrid van Bergen and Filip Pavlović have in common? They all emerged victorious from a season of “I’m a Star”. But while the jungle king of the first season of 2004 and the jungle queen of 2009 of season four are celebrities whose names are also known independently of the RTL jungle, reality TV star Filip Pavlović (“Bachelorette”) is more of a king waiting.

Because of the Corona travel restrictions, the 2021 jungle camp could not take place in Australia or in the alternative location in Wales. Instead, RTL had to move the camp to Hürth and the winner did not get the usual crown, but the promise to become the first confirmed participant in the next real jungle camp in Australia in 2022. But whether RTL can keep this promise is uncertain, as “Bild” and the media service DWDL speculate.

RTL is sticking to Australia

Meanwhile, RTL in Cologne is sticking to the plans for 2022. It should be a camp, not a replacement show. “We are doing everything we can for our wish that we produce the next jungle camp in Australia,” said spokesman Claus Richter the Tagesspiegel.

For Great Britain, however, producer ITV has decided to rely on Wales instead of Australia in the coming year. In view of the unclear situation as to which travel restrictions there could be at the beginning of next year, the logistical problems are too great, the reason is to set up camp at Gwrych Castle in 2022 as well. The good ratings this year are likely to have done the rest.

The planning of RTL, however, is unaffected by ITV and Wales, it is currently said from Cologne. However, the moment of decision is getting closer and closer. With a view to the ratings, only one option is unthinkable for RTL: to forego “I am a star” entirely. With an average of 2.54 million viewers (the market share in the total audience was 12.1 percent and in the advertising-relevant target group of 14 to 49 year olds even 18.9 percent), the “Big Jungle Show” of 2021 was not down the values of the previous year, when an average of 5.28 million people tuned in (market share 24.6 or 37.9 percent), but still well above the RTL channel average. Last season it was 7.7 percent in the total audience and 10.9 percent in the advertising-relevant target group.
