Riga Marathon Director: Participants understand the conditions of epidemiological safety – in Latvia – News

The organizers of the event have estimated that about 1,500 participants took part in the race for the smallest participants, and about 1,000 participants in the “Family Race”.

“Running has finally returned to Riga, despite the rain,” said Nords.

He acknowledged that the participants of the event had understood the epidemiological safety conditions related to the restriction of the spread of Covid-19. According to Nord, the participants of the event understand that such requirements will have to be met at major sporting events until we have coped with the pandemic.

At the same time, Nords was pleased that most marathon runners will have a valid Covid-19 certificate. Preliminary data from the organizers suggest that the proportion of participants who have been vaccinated or infected with Covid-19 could reach around 80%, but more accurate information could be available after the marathon.

The director of the event reminded that on Saturday until 8 pm in the Dome Square, runners can receive bracelets to enter the start area on Sunday. He called for this to be done in good time so that there is no unnecessary stress before the start.

The State Police assured LETA that the marathon events were conducted peacefully and without incident on Saturday.

It has already been reported that the “Rimi” Riga Marathon has started in the center of the capital today.

The event with longer distances, including a marathon and a half marathon, will continue on Sunday.

The organizers of the marathon say that the organization of the marathon and the safety protocol have been coordinated with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Health, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control and the Latvian Athletics Union.

The safety protocol of the event has been adapted to the epidemiological situation, providing for the launch of three different safety levels. The green start will gather and provide a joint start for vaccinated and Covid-19 diseased participants with a valid European Union digital certificate. Participants with a negative Covid-19 test will start in the yellow start and will start with an individual start time. In turn, the Virtual Start is intended for those participants who do not want to start in person or take a test.

To enter the start area, participants will need a special marathon green or yellow bracelet, which will provide an opportunity to start in the so-called Green or Yellow start.
